About Us
Gene Schenk Quarter Horses is a breeding and training facility located on 170 acres in Deep Creek Lake, MD.  We specialize in training lunge liners, 2- and 3-year-old western pleasure futurity horses, and hunter under saddle horses.  We also guide youth and amateur riders.  The facility boasts a 25 stall heated barn, 60’ x 100’ heated indoor arena, and a 100’ x 200’ outdoor ring.

History
Gene Schenk is a third generation horseman who grew up in a family horse business called Western Trails.  Gene gained knowledge and experience in working with all kinds of horses including “problem” horses.  This environment also allowed Gene to develop valuable people skills, one of which being a unique expertise in matching riders’ abilities with all types of horses.

Training Method
In his early 20s, Gene had the opportunity to train under NSBA President and multiple AQHA World and Congress Champion Steve Heckaman.  This experience served as a foundation for Gene’s “soft” approach to training horses.
